The text is based on Petrarch's sonnet 'Or ch'l ciel e la terra, famously set by Monteverdi in his 8th book of madrigals. In English, the piece strips the words to an elementary, quasi-abstract form, exploring the strong imagery they evoke while turning us away from the first person point of view and into a universal voice.
