This mysterious modal sixteenth century French tune receives a first-class twenty-first century treatment by David Schmidt. Written for the Willamette Master Chorus series, it celebrates the birth of Christ in four intriguing verses and then breaks into a climactic “Gloria in excelsis Deo.” The ending quiets down softly and resolves into a pleasing major tonality.
