About us

The Amadeus Songbird, our logo

Music moves our family

In 1963, my father, Morton Burt, moved our family from Denver to Whittier, California. Dad was a singer, a composer, an arranger and a director, and he played just about every instrument he could get his hands on. In our house, music wasn't something we did now and then. It was who we were.

On Thursday nights all seven of us crowded into the family room to play jazz, each on a different instrument: Dad on trombone, me on trumpet, my brother on tenor sax, Mom at the piano, one sister on flute, another on clarinet, and the youngest keeping time on tambourine.

In 1976, Dad took a leap of faith and left a steady job to buy a small piano and organ store. He grew it into a chain, Morton Burt's Music Centers. After he passed away in 1992, our family carried on as Burt's Music in Print, supplying sheet music to teachers, schools and performers.

The next chapter

Amadeus Sheet Music carries that story forward. We offer more than 135,000 titles from over 400 publishers: choral octavos and collections, band and orchestra music, piano and vocal books, guitar, classroom methods, and instruments and gear.

Whether you direct a choir, teach a classroom, lead worship on Sunday morning or simply play for the love of it, we want you to find the right music quickly and buy it with confidence.

  • See before you buy. Product pages show the details musicians ask about, such as voicing, difficulty and accompaniment, and many let you look inside the music before you order.
  • Ordering for a group? Schools, churches and choirs can order by invoice. Send us your list and we'll prepare one.
  • Help when you need it. Questions about a title or an order? Get in touch, or start a chat from any page.

Our Songbird

When we first went online, we held a contest to design our logo. Entries poured in from around the world, but nothing felt quite right until the day before the contest closed, when a young girl in South America sent us the songbird you see here. We knew at once she was ours.

We're still a family business, and we still simply love music. Thank you for letting us be part of yours.
