I'm Goin' Up a Yonder

This spiritual begins softly with a soloist (or small ensemble) and continues to crescendo in texture and dynamics, climaxing at the key chane with the addition of a soaring descant. The repetition of the text, “I'm goin' up a yonder,” helps to amplify the longing to go “home.”
